Are You Ready to Start a Business

Are you ready to be the next Businessman?    "Walang yumayamang employado"(no one becomes rich in being an employee). This has been the battle cry of the  small and medium scale entreps. TV shows, you tube videos, seminars here and there, local and abroad romanticize the glamour of being your own boss. I think that's great because it can bring out the best in people, it gives them hope, ideas and courage that it can be done.  Before jumping into the business arena and slugging it out with the customers, competitors, workers, creditors, partners and suppliers. I want you to answer the questions below and assess yourself, this can solidify your decision or can help you prepare more before going for it.

 Assess yourself.  Answer this questions:
  1. Are you committed to start and run your own business?
  2. Are you ready to deal with people above, same  and below your level?
  3. Can you make difficult decisions on your own?
  4. Can you work under pressure?
  5. Are you resourceful?
  6. Are you ready to take things into your own hands?
  7. Can you separate your family duties from your business duties?
  8. Are you ready to say no to your friends and family ?
  9. Can you handle big sums of money?
  10. Do you have enough capital to sustain you for 6 months to a year with no sales?
  11. Can you handle stress from your workers if they do not perform as expected or when they are always short?
  12. Can you handle the pressure from clients when your supplier delivered a wrong item or worse, can not deliver on the delivery date?
  13. Can you bear the fickle-minded customers after asking tons of questions?
If you find you lack the abilities and experience required to run your own business, you can improve them by:

  1. Learn from friends or relatives who are already in business
  2. Get some training on-line or off-line,. Like TESDA. They have a 3-day entrepreneurship course for free.
  3. Work for a businessman for free  in exchange of the knowledge in running your business.
  4. Read books or check the internet.
  5. Watch you tube about business and investment like Shark Tank, Dragons Den, locally MyPuhunan, Swak na swak, Francis Kong, and other related shows.
  6. Find a partner that complements your strengths and weaknesses.
  7. Seeking help from business consultants who can give you an objective advise and help you set a game plan.
